Navan is looking for a Staff Android Engineer to serve as a technical architect for our mobile ecosystem. In this role, you will solve organization-wide technical challenges, focusing on high-level system architecture, cross-platform strategy, and technical leadership. You will ensure our mobile platform can scale to support engineers and complex global travel requirements without friction.

What You’ll Do:

  • Drive the Vision: Partner with engineering and product leadership to identify, plan, and execute the long-term technical vision for the Android platform.
  • Architect Scalable Systems: Drive frameworks and modularization strategies that lead to significant improvements in developer velocity and user experience.
  • Lead Through Influence: Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other mobile engineers across multiple teams.
  • Resolve Systemic Debt: Identify and resolve organization-wide technical debt, assisting teams in understanding and adopting new technologies safely.
  • Optimize Developer Experience: Improve CI/CD pipelines and Gradle build performance to support a large-scale engineering organization.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product and Sales teams to deliver high-impact features that align with global business needs.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 8-10 years of software engineering experience, with a focus on large-scale distributed mobile systems.
  • Architectural Mastery: Proven experience turning ambiguous problem spaces into clear, scalable architectural solutions.
  • Deep Systems Knowledge: Expertise in lower-level Android concerns: bytecode manipulation, custom Gradle plugins, and advanced threading models.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to influence, working with technical and cross-functional teams to drive alignment.
  • Modern Ecosystem: In-depth experience with the modern Android stack (Kotlin, Compose, Coroutines) and cloud-based mobile infrastructure.
  • Problem Solver: Comfort with thinking outside the box to implement solutions for high-volume, enterprise-grade applications.
  • Strategic Thinking: Experience designing mobile architectures that support global localization, accessibility, and high-performance data syncing.
  • Innovation Mindset: Ability to leverage AI development tools (Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate the mobile SDLC while maintaining strict quality gates.
